Centennial’s C9-Impact Initiative for SMEs Commissions a New Solar Project in Rwanda
Centennial’s C9-Impact Initiative is dedicated to financing solar and battery energy storage projects for small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) in African countries
Kigali, Rwanda (October 11, 2024) – Centennial, a power company operating in the United States and African countries, has commissioned a rooftop solar project at The Cellar Restaurant in Kigali, Rwanda. The project was designed and installed by Centennial’s in-house engineering team and financed through Centennial’s C9-Impact Initiative.
Founded in 2014, Centennial launched the C9-Impact Initiative in 2022. Centennial’s staff are invested alongside the company in C9-Impact Initiative’s projects.
C9-Impact Initiative is dedicated to financing solar and battery storage projects for SMEs. The projects are designed to lower power costs for SMEs, while improving the predictability of power supply and lowering the environmental footprint of their operations.
The Cellar is a restaurant located in Kigali, Rwanda that has been serving customers since 2010. The restaurant is popular with residents and visitors, and serves as a venue hosting events and special occasions.
Frère Aristide, the representative of The Cellar Restaurant said: “Partnering with Centennial for our rooftop solar project has been a great opportunity for our business. We’re seeing substantial cost savings on electricity bills and it was helpful that Centennial installed the project without requiring an upfront capital expenditure from our business. We are proud to contribute to the promotion of sustainable practices."

Projects delivered through the C9-Impact Initiative are designed to align with SDG-7, the United Nations’ seventh sustainable development goal, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy.
